Designer Cat Litter Pans
From LoveToKnow Cats
There are designer cat beds and designer collars, so why not designer cat litter pans? Luckily, if you want your kitty to be able to take care of her "business" in style, you'll enjoy some of the designer kitty litter boxes available today.
Types of Designer Cat Litter Pans
There are several different categories of designer cat litter pans. Even if you live in a small apartment, you are certain to find a box that suits your needs.
- Hidden Boxes: One type of designer litter box is one that disguises itself as something other than a litter box pan. There are many different options available that can hide your litter box. You'll find cabinets that look like furniture through sites like Hidy Tidy. Good Pet Stuff offers a litter box (pictured above) that has a planter on top. This helps camouflage the litter box and make it look more like a part of the decor.
- Fancy Boxes: There are some really fancy designer litter pans on the market today. Manufacturers offer everything from boxes that blend into your decor to ones that come with a ton of accessories to help you with clean up. You'll even find boxes that can be discarded after a use or two, meaning your box never gets that heavy cat urine smell that some boxes pick up over time.
- Boxes with a Purpose: Some litter boxes have a specific purpose. Many pet owners who have both dogs and cats complain about the dogs getting into the litter box. There are few things as disgusting as a dog dragging cat feces all over the house. With this in mind, some companies have created dog proof boxes that the cat enters from the top instead of the side. In this category, you will also find electric boxes that scoop the litter after the cat uses the box.
- Just Plain Cute Boxes: Even if you don't want to disguise the litter box or need one with a specific purpose, you'll find a ton of cute boxes that will make you smile. Your cat likely doesn't care, but you will enjoy knowing that you have a litter box that is stylish and fashionable. You'll find everything from lidded boxes with flowers and polka dot patterns, to more modern looking designs. There are even different shapes available such as the Igloo shaped boxes.
Features
When you begin hunting for your new litter box, be sure to think about which features you want, and make sure you are getting a quality product that will last for a good long while.
- Size: Even though the point of a designer litter box is to have something cute, you'll still want a litter pan that is functional for your cat. Keep in mind the size of your cat and the size of the pan. A large cat typically needs a larger box.
- Shape: Some cats move to the corner of their box to urinate. If your cat does this, you'll know because the litter will be wettest in the corners. A cat that urinates in the corners might respond to an oval or round shaped pan differently than a cat that urinates in the middle of the box.
- Ease of Changing Litter: If you are purchasing a hidden litter pan in particular, be sure that the litter box can be changed easily. Take into consideration any physical limitations you or other family members have that might make changes more difficult.
- Expense: Even though you might not mind paying a little more for a really cute box, keep in mind that most boxes need to be thrown out and replaced eventually, even if you use liners. Cat urine tends to seep into the plastic material most boxes are made of. It does take quite a while for this to happen, but eventually you will need to replace the box. Make sure your budget allows for replacing the pan you've purchased every year or two.
If you're in the market for a designer litter pan, you're certain to find a huge choice of products. Even your local pet supply store will have many to choose from.
