Maine Coon Cat Rescue
From LoveToKnow Cats
Maine Coon cat rescue organizations exist to provide care and shelter for Maines that are homeless, abused, or in need of care for some reason. There are many of these organizations across the United States
What Is a Rescue
A cat rescue is an organization that literally rescues unwanted animals from shelters and other poor living conditions. Different rescues may focus on different breeds of cats or dogs, but all work in largely the same manner:
- Many rescues are registered 501(c)(3) non-profit groups meaning that any donation that is given to them is tax deductible.
- The rescue works closely with local animal shelters, disaster agencies, humane societies and veterinarians to identify animals in need of their help.
- The rescue may fund educational classes for the public.
- Rescues often provide spaying and neutering.
- The rescue will usually have several foster homes available for the animals.
- Carefully screened adoptions are usually a large part of what the rescue does.
A shelter may also offer the new owner help and counseling when dealing with the unique problems of a shelter cat.
