About Scientific Professional Cat Litter

Ralph, with so may brands of cat litter currently on the market, why did you feel a need to create Scientific Professional Cat Litter?

Pet Ecology brings a fresh face to the cat litter market. We wanted to provide a product that was environmentally-friendly, with an additional health benefit for cats and owners.

Pet Ecology's Scientific Professional Cat Litter is lightweight and bio-clumpable; it can even tell you when your cat is sick with a possible urinary infection. Scientific Professional serves as an early detection indicator for Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) with a patented sickness-indicating, color-change reactor in the litter.

Unlike traditional clay-based cat litter brands, Scientific Professional is made with all natural and biodegradable minerals, making it environmentally friendly to landfills. A recipient of the 2005 Pet Product News Editor's Choice Award, the litter is significantly lighter than other brands, and can be shipped economically through Pet Ecology's exclusive monthly home-delivery program.

Tell us about Scientific Professional Cat Litter.

Millions of cats are diagnosed with urinary tract infections each year. If not detected early, these infections can quickly become severe and even cause death. Pet Ecology's sickness-indicating cat litter is the only known non-prescription cat litter on the market that alerts pet owners to seek veterinarian assistance to prevent serious feline illness.

Explain how the sickness indicator works.

Scientific Professional's patented sickness-indicating, color-change reactor is a controlled, six-patented factor which detects the pH level of a cat's urine and indicates whether urinary tract infection is present. The less acidic a cat's urine, the more susceptible he/she is to forming stones or crystals in the urinary tract. The color of the litter changes to varying shades of pale pink to magenta when the pH in a cat's urine is abnormal. The darker the shade of pink, the more serious the problem may be.

What really sets this brand apart from other products?

Scientific Professional Cat Litter is flushable and safe for cats, people and the environment, and it is the only lightweight, patented cat litter designed to alert cat owners of possible feline FLUTDs, a life-threatening feline illness that often goes undetected.

Also, Scientific Professional's mineral composition is significantly lighter in weight, in fact seventy percent lighter, than clay-based cat litter brands. A three pound bag lasts as long as a twenty-one pound bag of traditional clay litter.

In addition, Scientific Professional's superior odor control neutralizes litter box odors, rather than masking them. It does not contain any perfumes that irritate cats. The cat litter forms firm clumps that are supple and safe to flush in sewer and septic systems.

What is sodium bentonite, and what effects can it have on a cat's well-being?

Sodium bentonite is an additive in most clay cat litter that is made from Portland cement and used as a clumping agent. It has been known to potentially harm cats, if ingested.

Scientific Professional is made from all natural, biodegradable mineral components. It does not contain sodium bentonite or silica dust, and is virtually track free. Scientific Professional is safe, if ingested by cats or kittens. The cat litter breaks down organically and does not contribute to today's landfill capacity issues. Whereas, clay-based cat litter can swell up to 15 times its original size via water absorption, exacerbating landfill space.

Hi, Ruby. Great question. The litter is nearly track free, but just about every litter will track just a bit. Cats also like to fling litter at times. The best way to cut down on tracking is with a low track litter, such as this one and a mat in front of the [Litter_Boxes|litter box]]. There are many different styles of mats to help prevent tracking.

I did some research on the litter robots and found an online manual. The manual says the machine requires a clumping type litter and that clay is preferred. Scientific Professional Cat Litter is not clay-based but it is clumpable. You may just want to try it out and see if it works to your satisfaction. Remember when changing cat litters to do so in stages so your cat can get used to the change.
