Serengeti Cat Food
From LoveToKnow Cats
Serengeti cat food is a unique, dry cat food that mimics the natural diet of a wild cat.
All Natural Ingredients
Some other cat foods use ingredients that felines would not have access to in the wild like:
- Corn
- Soy
- Chemical preservatives
Serengeti Herbal Felid Diet has none of the above listed in its ingredients and is carnivore specific. That means that it is formulated for the nutritional needs of your cat. It contains high levels of amino acids, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, and concentrated sources of nutrients. This meat based formula contains a ratio of approximately eight pounds of fish and chicken meal for every sixteen pounds of cat food. Natural chicken fat is used to provide linoleic acid.
The Health of Your Cat
What do all of those ingredients offer that another, lesser quality brand doesn’t?
A primary issue with many cats, especially neutered males, is a problem with calculi in the urinary tract due to abnormal pH levels. Serengeti cat food promotes a safe and healthy pH in the urinary tract.
Other health benefits:
- A special fiber blend helps the cat’s system get rid of hair balls
- Probiotics keep your feline’s digestive system working efficiently.
- The high nutritional content promotes:
- The growth of thick, healthy fur
- A strong immune system
- Strong muscle tone to keep your cat exercising as she ages
When fed to your pet as directed, Serengeti will support cats at all levels of nutritional needs, from kitten to mature cat.
Ingredients in Serengeti Cat Food
Besides the chicken and fish that provide the 38 percent protein content of this high quality food, Serengeti includes the following in its list of ingredients:
- Potatoes
- Eggs
- Cinnamon
- Fennel
- Rosemary
- Basil
- Apricots
- Kelp
- Alfalfa
- Whey
Many of these items are high in antioxidants to help your cat fend off illness. Cinnamon has been shown to help balance sugars in the body, and kelp supports the adrenal system. Each of these herbs works with your pet’s body to give her the longest, healthiest life possible.
One thing that is not included in this food is K3, menadione sodium bisulfate. The company states that they are concerned by the health risks to animals associated with this product and instead rely on foods that are high in vitamin K1:
- Alfalfa
- Egg yolk
- Kelp
- Liver
- Oats
Changing Your Cat's Diet
All dietary changes should be gradual unless your veterinarian suggests otherwise.
Since Serengeti cat food is much more concentrated than most other foods, you will find that you are ultimately feeding your cat less, and that there is less waste. Your feline's nutritional requirements will vary.
Some of the things that will affect the amount of food she needs are:
- Breed
- Age
- Climate
- Activity level
- Stress
- Gestation
- Lactation
- Weight
All of these should be taken into careful consideration when choosing the correct amount of food.
To change your pet over to the new food, mix it in with the food your cat has been eating. Start with a small amount of the new food and gradually increase the new and decrease the old over a two week period. Watch your cat for any signs of digestive distress. At the end of two weeks your pet will be eating only the new food. Due to the nutrition packed into this cat food, you will find that you are feeding about half as much as you were before. Be careful not to over-feed your pet.
