Wellness Cat Food
From LoveToKnow Cats
If you are looking for a healthier alternative to the usual grocery store cat food brands, take a closer look at Wellness Cat Food.
Wellness Cat Food and Feline Health
The diet your cat receives is one of the most important factors impacting its life-long health. When you think about it that way, it's easy to see why you should choose a cat food brand that will give your cat the best possible nutritional advantage.
Proper nutrition, right from the start of your cat's life, can help build stronger bones, healthier organs, and a vigorous immune system. With these advantages, your pet will be better able to fend off diseases that might shorten its life expectancy. The question is; How can you really be sure if your cat is getting what it needs?
Wellness cat food was formulated with a specific goal in mind; to provide optimum nutrition for cats without using artificial colors, non-nutritional fillers, and unsafe preservatives. To this end Wellness cat food uses only 100 percent fresh, human-grade ingredients in their mixes in order to provide the most usable proteins, vitamins and minerals for your pet.
What this means to you as an owner, is that your pet receives no wasted calories. Each bite is a fully digestible source of nutrition for your cat that, when fed in the appropriate amount, will not contribute to feline obesity, a condition that often leads to a host of other physical ailments down the road.
Main Ingredients
Let's examine some of the most important components of the Wellness formulas.
Proteins
Wellness cat food uses real meat as the main-stay in nearly all of its formulas, unless a specific formula addresses a particular dietary concern. Each mix is formulated to provide all of the essential amino acids that are so necessary for healthy cellular production.
This means your cat will receive real meat as the main ingredient in its food, not a lower quality, secondary protein source as found in many of the common grocery store brands. Using real human-grade meat is more expensive, as reflected in the price per bag, but the nutritional benefits should be well worth the additional cost.
Fats
It's important to use the right fats to support healthy skin and coats. Wellness uses high quality olive oil, flaxseed, sunflower, and canola for most of it fat sources, with additional chicken fat included in its cat diets to provide Arachadonic acid, an essential fatty acid for felines.
Fruits and Vegetables
You might not readily think of fruits and vegetables as a necessary source of nutrition for cats, but these natural foods contain valuable anti-oxidants that can help head off heart disease, kidney disease, and many forms of cancer.
Wellness also adds green tea extract and lycopene for their excellent anti-oxidizing properties.
Ingredients You Won't Find in Wellness
Wellness brand does not include the following ingredients in their formulas, and we'll tell you why.
- Corn- This item is often used as a filler in lesser pet food brands, but offers very little usable nutrition.
- Soy- This item is another inexpensive filler that provides little protein, interferes with normal digestion, and has been known to cause allergic reactions in pets.
- Wheat- Yet another inexpensive filler linked to pet food allergies.
- Animal by-products- These are cheap sources of proteins that may come from sick animals, and are definitely not meant for human consumption, so why feed them to your pet?
- Artificial preservatives- Some of the most common chemical preservatives used in pet foods are identified as cancer causing agents in humans. There have been no published studies to date on the accumulative effects these same chemicals might have on our pets when fed over a period of years.
- Excessive sweeteners and salts- Sweeteners have been linked to the onset of diabetes, and too much sodium can lead to the development of heart disease.
Choosing the Appropriate Mix
Wellness offers a variety of dry and canned formulas to fit the nutritional needs of every cat. Keep the following considerations in mind when choosing which mixes to feed your own furry friend.
Life Stage
Kittens, adult cats and senior felines all have very different nutritional needs, so it's important to begin your search by choosing an age appropriate mix.
Dietary/Health Concerns
Wellness has formulas designed to address several of the most common health concerns cats face, such as obesity and urinary tract problems. Ask your vet for his/her recommendations.
Conclusion
Wellness cat food offers high quality ingredients in a balanced formula without including useless fillers and harmful chemical preservatives. Perhaps this brand is worth checking out for your own pets?

Hi Denise,
I think your best bet is to speak with your veterinarian about which food he wants her on. Each diabetic cat will have different needs, depending upon how severe the problem is. Also, a diabetic cat needs a very careful balance.
