Which Breed is My Cat
From LoveToKnow Cats
Which breed is my cat? Is my new kitten's behavior normal? These are just a few of the questions many cat lovers have when they adopt a brand new friend.
Which Breed is My Cat, and Other Questions...
I have a ten-month-old male kitten that I think is a Siamese, and I would just like to know a few things.
His siblings are a tortoise shell, a ginger and a pitch black cat. He has dark brown limbs, tail and face, and he has no mixed markings on his body. He has a beige coat, but he is starting to turn a little darker at this stage. His eyes are ice blue, hence the name Ice. He looks pure-bred, but what breed does he fall into?
He also adores water. He tries to climb into the bath with me, and he loves the swimming pool! He would sit there and fish the whole day long if I let him. Is that common?
He is also like a dog. He fetches me at the gate whenever I return home, and he speaks to me constantly. We also have his sister, the tortoise shell named Gala, and both of them have developed loving relationships with their own fluffy toys. Ice has a huge dog whose ears he sucks while kneading, and Gala has a huge dog that she carries around with her. Is that common?
I love my babies! Sometimes my boyfriend complains that they receive more attention than he does. That is the problem, he cannot purr!

Hi Liezl,
It sounds like your cat has Siamese in his background, but since his sibs are so many different colors he must be a mixed breed. Tortoise shells are my absolute favorites.
I'm not surprised he loves water and acts a lot like a dog. Siamese are known for being adventurous, extremely affectionate and very vocal. They love to talk!
Your kitten is actually nursing his stuffed toy just as he would have nursed his mom. I hear about this behavior quite a bit, so I think it's fairly natural. It's just the way he comforts himself, and his sister probably cuddles her stuffed toy for the same reason.
All in all, it sounds like you have two beautiful and wonderful feline companions. Enjoy their eccentricities because they just make life more interesting!
Thanks for your questions~~ Kelly
Brother and Sisters Are Different Colors
I was given three wonderful, loving cats and told they are two sisters and a brother. The two gray sisters are tabby and look so much alike they are hard to tell apart except one is a little bit smaller. Their brother, I was told is part Siamese. He has beautiful blue slanted eyes while the girls have large round yellow eyes with large black pupils. He does look like a Siamese with the chocolate color head, ears, tail and legs, although his feet are white. His body is also like a Siamese. My question is how can these three be related when they are so different? I would surely appreciate it if you would please let me know what you think. Thank you very much.

Hi, Kaelyn,
It sounds like you have a wonder set of cats here. Since the brother may only be partial Siamese, there could be a huge variation in coloring between brothers and sisters. If the cat were full Siamese, then the kittens would all look similar. For example, I had a Siamese cat as a child. She had kittens from a stray before we were able to get her fixed. The kittens were black and white, gray and one that looked like a Siamese except for a white tip on her tail.
Cats have genes, just like we do and there is a gene for color. The color gene is also tied into the sex chromosome. This is why there are very few male calico cats. The only true male calicos will typically have an extra X chromosome.
Siamese have blue eyes too, so that can be an indicator that your cat has some Siamese in him. And they have big, loud meows.
Good luck with your new family. They sound precious!

That is good advice. Cats are very smart and will learn different words with time. My cat understands the word "food" for sure :).
