Hi Tabitha,
Sounds like you have some great cats. Every cat has a different personality. Many cats will pick a favorite person in the home. They may still like others, but that will be their "go to" person for lap sitting and such. It's great that you've had cats that love everyone equally. We have a cat like that right now. She doesn't care which person pets her or feeds her as long as they do.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardI consider black cats to be lucky as well, as a matter of fact I have a black Manx named Lucky! As to the comment black cats are 1 person casts... SO NOT TRUE! I have had 4 (2 Manx, Angora, & Norwegian Forest Cat) that love every member of my family. Only 1 of which is "a bit" more attached to me than anyone else, the others share equal love & adoration.
-- Contributed by: TabithaThanks so much, Mel. Informed readers like you are part of what makes this site so great. Thanks for making the changes, Kelly.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHi Mel,
Thanks for sharing that fact. I did some research and you're correct, so I've amended the original writer's work to reflect the correct info. :)
-- Contributed by: KellySorry but this article is incorrect. Black cats are considered to be lucky in the UK. In other parts of Europe they are considered unlucky. Here a black cat crossing your path means good luck!
-- Contributed by: MelCats have such wonderful personalities and each is unique. Sounds like your daughter must be very kind and loving for these pets to be so partial to her. There are a lot of superstitions surrounding black cats, but as you've discovered, they are just old wives' tales. Black cats make great pets.

-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHi, Our first black cat was partial two my oldest daughter. He would walk across the street and wait for the school bus with her and when she would arrive he would be there waiting. He was extremely smart and kind. He taught my German Sherpherd to go up and down the stairs. Funny, when the puppy had an accident on my carpet my cat sat and waited for me to see this as if to say, "he did it". Well, oneday he never came home. Today, we have a 7 week old black cat and do not plan to let him outside without supervision. He is also, attached to my oldest daughter. I do have to say, there are some cultures in our neighborhood that consider blk cats a "taboo".
-- Contributed by: IsabelHi Raven,
There are few cats that are pure white or pure black. Most cats have a little of at least one other color somewhere on their bodies. The pure white cats tend to be really gorgeous, however.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardWhite cats may be a good alternative should one be allergic but they are rare and hard to find. My mother's white cat passed away from old age. We have been trying to find another white cat, she loves white cats, but its been difficult.
-- Contributed by: RavenHi Debbie,
Baking soda is a great odor reducer, as is white vinegar. I also think you are offering great advice about keeping the litter clean. I have found this is one of the main things that will cause a cat to have an accident.
I have heard of people using white and black pepper from a shaker on things to repel cats, but I would urge caution to people planning to use pepper or other household items to repel a cat. Many substances are highly toxic to our feline friends. For example, if you look at our list of common plants that are poisonous, you'll find Cayenne Pepper.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHere is a tip to anyone who has a cat that urinates and how to stop it and how to clean it using natural products. I have had cats my entire life and these treatments never fail. First to stop your cat from urinating in or on things use pepper. Just ordinary pepper. Sprinkle it on the place they spray in and they will never urinate there again. Cats are very clean animals ad will never urinate where they eat or sleep so if your cat is urinating and defecating it can be because their litter is too harsh or hasn't been cleaned (you must clean their tray at least every 2 days) also could be territorial (if you have bought in a new cat or even a baby) or because they are afraid to use their toilet or go outside, so try and move the tray to somewhere else. But for the smell once you have put tissue down to soak up the area where they have been to the toilet put baking soda down on the offensive spot and wait for it to go hard then vac...e it up and the smell will go instantly. It works and it doesn't ruin your carpet or where ever they go and it is effortless work. If the pepper doesn't work you can use curry powder or paprika (if you don't mind the smell) but pepper has never let me down in all the years I have had cats. their smell is amazing and the pepper while isn't pleasant will NOT be harmful to them but it makes sure they never go in that spot again.

I used to have a dog that would do the same thing. The very first thing you should do is to purchase a good enzymatic cleaner from your local pet supply store and thoroughly clean any areas where he has defecated. This includes underneath the doors, as the smells can linger. I hate to tell you to be thankful, but at least it is feces and not urine. The smell of cat urine is very hard to remove and can almost destroy your house in some cases. This should be a little easier problem to deal with and to break the cat from repeating.
Anytime you are going to be away for a period of time, contain this cat in a small area with his litter box. You should have one litter box for each cat in your household, even if they use one another's. Also, be sure you are scooping them daily. I know it is a pain, but some cats are very picky and will not use a box another cat has used. They even start this behavior after seeming to be fine with sharing.
Also, have you made any changes in the type of litter you use? Cat's paws are highly sensitive and some cats will avoid certain litters because of this. This can show up more when they defecate because that is when they tend to dig and cover their business, so to speak.
If you have not made changes, you may want to experiment with different types for this particular cat and observe his behavior. Never switch 100 percent at once. Do it in stages of 25 percent new litter to 75 percent old litter. Next litter box change would be 50 percent and 50 percent and so on in 25 percent increments.
You may want to journal what the cat's responses are to each change so you can track this until you find something that works.
Give these ideas a try and please don't hesitate to come back and ask again if none of these things work. We can brainstorm some more ideas. Good luck!
I have one more question! One of our fixed male indoor cats is defecating in front of doors! sometimes it's in front of the bathroom, sometimes on the carpet in front of the apartment!...other places too, but mostly in front of doors!, on carpets! and mostly inside doors (he's not a outdoor cat at all!...never been outside!...)....it's really become a disgusting habit!!!..as when you open the door, is smears it all over!!!...how do we get him to stop!!!???...there are plenty of litter boxes thru out the house, which has multiple cats using....but he's shared these thru out his life, along w/the others!!!...so why has he started doing it?!!! and how to stop him!!!...we caged him once, and he was ok for a coupleof weeks, but then, he's started again!!! I look forward to hearing from you!
-- Contributed by: kathrynHi, Paula. Jake sounds so sweet. A friend of mine has a horse that does that head butting thing. It can be a little more dangerous with a horse than a cat, though! It is wonderful that your cat and daughter get along so well. Thanks for sharing your story!
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardI can relate to the story about black cats perferring a certian person. We have a black cat named Jake he is very lovable to everyone in our family, but his "person" is my daughter Shanda. She will call him at night when it is time to go to bed and he comes running like a dog. He also has a cute head butting game he likes to play, you lower your head down towards him and he kind of stands up on his back legs and gently butts you with his head. He is a wonderful cat and we love him.
