Hi Jen,
Yes, they can get little red bite marks. However, it may be something else, such as an allergy. Your best bet is to treat for fleas and see if that clears up the problem. If not, then you may have to look toward it being an allergy to food or something in your home.

-- Contributed by: jenHi Alexis,
I would be cautious about using both. Cats are highly sensitive to toxins and the dosage is very specifically designed to not harm your cat's sensitive system. I would check with my vet first to make sure the flea collar you want to use and the Revolution are compatible and will not harm your cat. For example, our five-year-old daughter once put dog flea medicine on our cat, thinking she was doing what Mommy did for the cat. Our cat had seizures from this and we had to get her treatment from our vet. I'd just tread with caution. Better safe than sorry.

She may just be a small cat. Cats tend to twitch their backs at times in response to petting or other stimulus. I would look closer and see if she has any missing fur or open sores in the area. You may want to go ahead and treat her for fleas and keep a preventative on her. This may clear up any issues she is having.
Also, if you can catch her, I would take her to the vet and get a full round of vaccinations and get her spayed. The vaccinations may prevent her from getting one of the stray cat diseases out there, many of which are fatal.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHi, I have a stray kitten that I feed who is 6 months old. At the base of her tail she has these "contractions", or somthing similar to a spasm. I wondered if that is the cat's response to fleas, or maybe somthing more. She has two brothers who are the same age and look healthier than her. She is on the small side. Could that be an indication of somthing as well?

More than likely, he is digging at the areas repeatedly or grooming excessively and even biting to try to stop the irritation. Your first step is ridding your cat of fleas. The article above should help. Make sure you treat and/or wash all bedding. Once your cat is flea free, it may take a while for his scabs to heal. You may want to try one of the plastic collars when you aren't around to stop him from grooming. They sell these at most pet supply stores in a wide variety of sizes and styles.
If those things do not help, I would definitely get him to the vet. The problem may clear up on its own with a bit of work. However, if it does not clear up, it is possible you'll need to go ahead and take your cat to the vet for a checkup.

-- Contributed by: kristinaHi Ralph,
This is not the first time I've heard that one of the monthly flea treatments isn't working effectively.
Attacking a flea problem is done in three steps. You need to treat your cat, your home and your yard. Here's what I recommend:
- Schedule an appointment to have your cats flea bathed at the groomer's.
- Plan to flea bomb your house after the pets have been dropped off at the shop.
- While you have to remain outside of the house, go ahead and treat your yard with Ortho Liquid Sevin. This product kills fleas in the yard and the treatment should be repeated a week later to kill any hatchlings.
If you're able to coordinate this all at once it should completely eliminate the flea problem.
Best of luck.
