Hi April,

A lot of his behaviors sound playful to me. However, how a cat plays and how a human plays are vastly different. His litter mates, for example, had tough skin and the grabbing and biting didn't hurt them. Human skin is much more tender.

My advice would be to start firmly telling him no when he does these things. You can also put baby locks on the cabinets. You shouldn't have to leave them on forever, but just like a real baby, he is going through a curious phase. You need to keep him out of there both for his own protection and for your peace of mind.

I am most concerned about his chewing through wires. That is dangerous. I would make sure all wires are tucked away. I think he sees them as a toy.

I wouldn't too much about his size. Cats come in all shapes and sizes. However, if you don't feel he is developing normally, then you may want to go ahead and have the vet check him out just to be on the safe side.

I have been looking all over this site for answers. My cat is 21 months old. I found him when he was about 5 months old. He did the gnawing and sucking on mine and my boyfriends necks. He is a very loving cat. But in the last 5 months, I have noticed changes in him. He runs through out the house like crazy, just running back and forth, sometimes even hitting a shut door. He has alos started to bite me. I will be sitting at the computer and he will sneak underneath the desk and bite my ankle or foot. When I jump because I didn't know he was there, he takes off and hides under the kitchen table. If I am walking by him, he will grab my leg and bite me then also. He jumps in the window sills and knocks stuff over that is up there. Plus, in his litter box, he will just play in it sometimes, and get litter all over the floor. He will also bite through wires, I have went through several cell phone chargers because of this. He is also shredding up papers. He is an inside cat, but I do let him go outside each day for a little bit. He usually stays within calling distance. He drags his food dish around the kitchen, even when it is full of food and water. He has learned to open up cabinets and will drag stuff out. He is just basically into everything. I have never had a cat that did any of this before, so I am wondering, is this normal? He also doesn't seem to be getting that big either. I have had two other males cats before that were much bigger than him at his age. He also follows me around the house, wherever I go, he is right behind me. If I shut the door and don't let him in, he will put his paws under the door and just stay there till I come out. Could someone please help me out?

Hi Alex,

The two cats will likely learn to tolerate one another over time, but probably will never be friends if they haven't warmed up by now.

I'm not sure why he is digging around in his bowl. Do you ever put treats in there? Perhaps he is looking for something better.

He sounds adorable :)

Hi, I have a very funny orange tabby names Jack. He is very loving and follows me everywhere, greets me every 5 minutes for attentions and loves eating. My first concern is that he sort of digs around his food bowls like he does in the liter box and i dont know why I thought it was maybe because he thought it was dirty so i would sweep and he would still do it. And my second concern is that I have another cat Pili and they dont get along at all, they've only been together for 6 months..will it ever change?

Hi Scott,

It actually is natural behavior. Cats will sometimes sniff one another's behinds because there are scent glands located near the tail. Cats also have scent glands in their cheeks, which is why they rub their faces on legs, doorways and furniture. When my cats present their rear, I just gently pick the cat up and turn her around to face me again. Nothing to worry about though :).

My male cat seems to always be putting his butt in my face. Is this a natural behavior? What does it mean?

Hi, Jessica,

He sounds like he provides hours of entertainment. A lot of cats play fetch. Cats are very smart and can be taught tricks. It is just that they are often so independent that it is hard to get them to do what you want. Of course, they all have different personalities and some enjoy pleasing their owners more than others.

As for the sponges in the bed, I have no idea why he does that. It sounds really funny. Perhaps he thinks he is taking care of you and helping you groom?

As for the food, cats are known grazers, so this behavior is something I've seen quite often in cats.

The hair bands, I have no idea why he is burying them in the food bowl. I do understand him liking them as they probably have your scent on them and rubber bands are fun to play with after all. Maybe he associates your scent with feeding time, since you are the one who cares for him.

He sounds like a real character. You're very lucky to have such an entertaining cat. :)

I am curious about one of my cat's behavior. I have a one-year-old male cat, and he is a strange fella. He LOVES to play fetch with his toys, which I find quite amusing. I also like to give him lots of different toys, mainly just to see what he'll do with them. He will take his balls and line them up in a perfect line across the floor. He will also take his toys and line them up on my pillow while I sleep. He takes my dish sponges out of the sink and hides them in my bed, and takes my hairbands out of the drawer and buries them in his food and water dish. The most curious thing I have seen lately is that he will lay right next to his food dish, fish out one piece of food onto the floor, and then eat it rather than eating out of the bowl. I find him very amusing and just wonder what he thinks he is doing?? Does he have OCD?
