Thanks Carina,

It's always smart to have these items on hand.

this is a good way to make a first aid kit

Alexis,

It sounds like you've had an ill kitty. Thanks for the tips for our visitors. I do want to add that it is vital that cats have the nutrient taurine. It is best to get the cat back onto his or her regular food as soon as possible after an illness or a food the vet has recommended.

This is a pretty good and comprehensive first aid list for cats; there are a couple of things one can add to this. PEDIALYTE (for babies) can be used safely in cats who are dehydrated; simply add to their wet food (not dry) or to their water bowl. It is great for cats who are dehydrated, who are sick with diarrhea, and for cats who, after this latest pet food recall, are experiencing kidney problems. It replaces lost electrolytes and rehydrates the kitty. Another good item to have on hand for sick/convalescing cats is...baby food (not the kind with onion powder or any garlic or onion added). Most cats, when they will not eat anything else, WILL eat baby food. Flavors particularly favored are ham, chicken, turkey, as well as lamb. PLEASE, do not let your cat go more than 24 hours without eating, as it can cause liver damage very quickly in a cat. Baby food is great for this purpose, as it will provoke cats who are not eating otherwise to eat, which is important for any cat who is sick. Hope this helps someone out there, I've found it invaluable and had to learn all this the hard way unfortunately.
