I got my kitten neutered 10-14 and the cut has not healed and bleeding. What should I do? Got it done at the local humane shelter. Got two kittens done, one is fine.

Please contact your local animal shelters and Humane Society. Many have programs for a cheaper spay/neuter. Also, if you are on a fixed income, some local shelters offer additional help.
You may also want to phone around and see if you can find a vet that works on a sliding scale or will take payments.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardMore people would spay/neuter their cats if the cost wasn't so high. Last year, we paid over $200 to have Punk neutered. I just paid $127 for feline shots on my kitten Smoke. I want to get him fixed but I have my own medical bills to pay.

If something scared him, he may just be a bit disoriented and not sure how to find his way home. I would print up some flyers with his picture and your phone number and put them in newspaper boxes around your neighborhood. One of the neighbors may know where he is hiding out. I think you'll find him, since he has been spotted. It just may take some time. Don't give up!
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHello, I have 2 neutered male cats that are just over a year old. They are brothers and I've had them since very young kittens. Last week one of the cats has gone missing but has been spotted very recently in the immediate area. Is this normal behaviour as they are both neutered. Why dosen't he come home if he is so near. Has he been ousted by his brother. Any light on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately, a small percentage of cats do react negatively to anesthesia or there may have been other problems that caused his death, such as internal bleeding. The only way to know for certain is to have an autopsy performed. It might be worth it for your own peace of mind. Please don't blame yourself for this, though. You were doing what was best for him and protecting him from roaming and other behavior problems. 99 percent of the time this turns out fine. Just sending some hugs your way.
When you are ready, you might want to consider adopting an adult cat already spayed or neutered from a rescue shelter (Petsmart works with rescue centers and have cats in their stores typically). This way the cat would already have had the surgery and you'd be saving a cat that would otherwise be euthanized.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardI had my wonderful six-seven month old male neutered today. He came out of anesthesia and seemed fine, then died. I am distraught. I believe in spaying and neutering, but feel like I short-changed this wonderful cat. What went wrong with this?
-- Contributed by: JudyHi Samantha,
There are different techniques that vets use when sterilizing male cats. The complete removal is the most common. I would call your veterinarian and discuss this issue with him to find out the procedure he used and to make sure the procedure was completed. Mistakes happen sometimes, after all.
I'm sorry to hear that he has Leukemia. Is the vet treating him in any way? Please keep him separate from any other cats as that is a highly contagious disease.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardMy cat bear just got neutered yesterday and also we found out her has lukiema. for some reason all the other male cats i have ever had neutered after the procedure they do not have testicles but bears are still there why?

I'm sorry to hear about the kitten. You'll find my answer under Ask the Cat Experts with the heading "Cat Died During Tipping".
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHI Kelly, We had a stray kitten come to our home out of the woods. He was pure white, his nose. ears, and paws where always pink. He had long white hair coming out from the outside of his ears. The vet thought it might be an Angora kitten. We had him for 3 months and thought he should be ID chipped and neutered before he started spraying. He passed away "after: he awoke from surgery. The vet said he had opened his eyes and looked around. The vet left the room for 2 minutes. When she came back into the room he was blue. They did mouth to shout and cpr on him. He didn't make it. They did find a tape worm after all was over and said. What could have happened? The vet can not say - she has no answers or explaination on why he died - except he had a reaction from the anesthesia, and said they did hear some fluid in his lungs after surgery. She called us at work and told my husband one story and when we went to pick up his body she gave us another story/ WHAT HAPPENED TO MY POOR BABY KITTEN???? How can I get truthful answers from the vet hospital? After reading this article on Neutering cats, I am wondering did he maybe aspirate, or choke to death? He was healthy and had all his shots up to date.
