Hi Emily,

There are two different schools of thought on this issue. Some feel that the chewing action of dry food helps maintain teeth and gum health, because it more closely resembles the chewing a cat will have on a natural (raw) diet, which is what they would eat in the wild. However, some feel that the wet foods are easier to digest. Probably the best answer is to feed your cat a little of both types. Just like people, cats can get bored with the same food day in and out. However, you also have to be careful not to upset kitty's stomach by changing foods too rapidly or too often.

For that reason, if you choose to feed your cat a mixture of foods, I would stick to canned and dry in the same family. For example, if you choose Science Diet dry, feed Science Diet wet in the same line. There are many different foods from which to choose and it may take some trial and error to find the one that is perfect for your pet. Your vet can also help by addressing any special dietary needs of your cat (overweight, young, elderly, hairballs, etc.).

Hi,

I was wondering if it is healthier for persians to be on dry food, or canned food?

Hi App,

Ringworm is easily diagnosed and treated, but don't let it go too long. The best thing to do is to get a fecal sample from each cat and take to your vet for testing. The vet will be able to determine if the cats have worms and what type and give you appropriate medication and appropriate dosage based on weight.

While there are over the counter medications, they aren't always as ideal as the above method. Good luck!

Hi, We have recently purchased two persians, and have been told that ringworm is very common in Persians. How difficult is it to get rid of?

Hi Zoila,

Both cats are highly affectionate and loving. A lot will depend upon the temperament of the individual cat, however. You'll want to make sure you choose a kitten that is as healthy as possible. Some things to look for include:

  • Clear, bright eyes
  • Check for ear mites (this looks like dirt inside the ears)
  • Search for fleas
  • Is the cat energetic and playful?

Be sure you spend adequate time with the kitten, getting to know him or her. Every cat has a different personality, so you'll want to find a kitten that meshes well in your household.

We bought kitten Persian cat about 5 wks old. We noticed that it have watery eyes, we took it to the Vet. Doctor and give him shots for consecutive three days and sold us cat food (mix of chicken and fish). The kitten "Spider" get sicker even more and vomit one time... we took it to the place where we purchased from and the man told us that you should not give it any sea food and the doctor should not give shots because he still too young. Any way what I should do? Please advice us my kids and us got hooked on "spider" even it is only one week with us. Your prompt reply is highly appreciated.
