-- Contributed by: kimberlyHi Freeman,
Actually, there are many female tabbies as well. I've owned several. I think it may have just been the luck of the draw in this case. Male cats can be wonderful and affectionate cats, so it sounds like you've had some really great pets over the years.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardi have noticed that most all of the tabbys that i have seen or have owned are males. is this true?
-- Contributed by: are most tabbys maleHi Tracy,
It may take Lucky some time to adjust to being an indoor cat. Make sure that you isolate him with his litter box in a contained area for a minimum of one or two weeks when you first bring him inside.
This will also give Bootsie a chance to get used to his presence in the house and many cats find a new pet in the home stressful.
Once you are ready to let him explore the rest of the house, watch him carefully. Congrats on finding a new pet to love. Lucky sounds very fortunate :)
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardI have a tabby cat. He is a tiger cat with 4 white paws, a white bib and he has the macarel design. He also has a beautiful "M" on his forhead. He is so handsome. We got Bootsie when he was about 6 to 8 weeks old. he was living next door at a abandoned house where there are quite a lot of feral cats. I feed them. Bootsie is now 2 years old and he is about 20 ponds! He is long and he is a big cat. He was so tiny I never thought he would get so big. He is the love of our lives! I will be taking in another cat in a couple of weeks. He is from next door as well. He must be a stray. I have gained his trust over the last 2 months from feeding him. I can pethim, hold him and he follows me. He even looks like Bootsie(just smaller) . He has a appt. on Nov. 3rd to get fixed and get his shots so he will be coming in the house on that date. Bootsie will have a playmate. I know it will take a few days for LUCKY (my husband named him lucky) to adjust, but Bootsie loves dogs and cats. Whenever we have dog or cat visitors is very good with them so I think it will work out. We just have to let lucky adjust from being a outdoor cat to a indoor cat.Bootsie is a indoor cat. I don't want my cats going outside, besides I live on the 3rd floor. Bootsie has no interest in going outside. He is happy sitting in the window. We have raccoons that climb the tree outside our bedroom window at night so Bootsie gets to see a lot out that window. Actually it's like a zoo. There are birds, squirrels, raccoons, even the other night there was a possum in that tree. It kind of makes me nervous because the tree is pretty close to our window, but I have been living here over 3 years and no problems so far.
-- Contributed by: TracyHi Ali,
They sound adorable. More than likely they are from the same litter, but without knowing their lineage it is impossible to say and it's hardly worth a DNA test :). Tabby is simply a way to refer to the markings on the coat. It isn't actually a breed. Most tabbies are simply a mixed breed of cat. All cats have different personalities too. Some enjoy cuddling, while others hate it. Enjoy these wonderful little babies. They sound like good companions :)
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHi there, I found two kittens about a month ago at a nearby high school by my house wandering around in a bush by the track. It didn't seem right these two babies were by themselves at nighttime on the street, so I took them planning to put up signs the next day to find an owner if one existed. I fell in love with these kittens nearly overnight. They are the absolute loves of my life now, but I was curious to know if they are tabbies and if there is any way I can tell if they are from the same parent. One (named her Sasha) is mostly white, blue eyes, and has a little orange striping in the tail as well as on her ears, appearing to be getting more on her feet and by her nose. The other (named Karlee) is gray and white with what looks like a more tabby-like coat, because she has a dark "M" on her forehead and a bullseye pattern on both sides of her belly. These two cats play together all day long, even using their litter box at the same time as each other, and resemble one another's behavior, minus the fact that Sasha seems to be a little smaller than than Karlee and far less dominant...any advice? If these two are tabbies, I highly recommend tabbies to anyone looking for kittens with amazing personalities who will show you plenty of love and attention. Thank you so much, Ali

-- Contributed by: ElizabethHi Jessi,
Minx tend to be very affectionate, but every cat has an individual personality. For example, as I type this, my Siamese cat is sitting next to me on the couch arm and has her head tucked up on my arm. She likes to "snuggle". You can socialize a kitten and teach it to enjoy being held, but you have to start young. A lot is going to depend on the age of the cat and how often he/she has been held.
You may want to ask the current owner or shelter if the cat is affectionate or not. It will also take a little time for the two of you to get to know one another. Make sure you read out articles on introducing a new cat into your household as Siamese tend to be very territorial.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHI. I am going to be adopting a half tabby/half minx cat. I was wondering if you could tell me if Tabbys are affectionate? I have a Siamese cat, and he is stuck up. His name is "Haiku", and he isnt very affectionate. If you know anything about Minx personality, I would appreciate that also. Thank you so much. Sincerely Jessi and Reagis

Hope your project goes well. Please let us know if we can be of further help.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHi Alyssa,
I'm sorry you had to give up Tigger. He sounds like he was adorable. Maybe one day you can get another Tabby, since you aren't allergic.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHi Catfanetic,
Tabbies make great pets. You can find so many beautiful cats in the local shelter. One of the best cats we've ever had was a shelter cat.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardi used to have atabby cat named tigger he had a white belly and white paws but not his leg and he was cute as hell and he was so fat that when he wanted to lick his belly he has to pick it up wit his paw and put his head down to lick it and he had this habit that when u scratch his butt he licks anything and he wont stop until u stop scratching his butt and we had give him up cuz of allergies but i wasnt allergic to him and i really really miss him but we have a dog right now though
-- Contributed by: alyssaI love tabby cats! Long live kitties!

-- Contributed by: kayclampitttHi Jesse,
Cats are highly intelligent. Did you know that they do not meow in the wild? Meowese is a language that experts believe cats have created specifically to communicate with their humans. They also have different meows to signal different needs and wants. Since you do not hear her meows, she has found another way to communicate with you, a kind of kitty sign language. Isn't that smart? Cats truly amaze me.
It is likely that the cat loves both you and the roommate. It really would be up to your roommate if he wants to allow you to take over ownership. You may want to discuss this idea with him. Perhaps if you offered to take over the costs of the cat's veterinary care and feeding, he would be willing to let you assume ownership. You know your roommate better than I, so try to gauge how best to approach him and what his response might be. Good luck! She sounds like a great cat.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardI have a brown tabby at home. Though she is not mine (it's my roommate's cat), she spends more time with me than she does with her master. She sleeps with me in bed every night (though she does sleep with her master sometimes). When I'm in my room, she's always laying down on my bed. Though she doesn't like to stay in my arms for long (and I always put her down when she wants down), she knows that I love her dearly and is pretty tolerate with my affection for her. I have a feeling that she knows I'm Deaf (her master is hearing) because when she wants my attention, she stands up against the chair I'm sitting in and tap my arm then meows when I look at her. I do feel bad that she isn't spending as much time with her master as she is with me. I've told my roommate that he needs to give her more attention. I do wonder how the cat will cope if we ever part our ways (i.e. one of us moving out) and wonder if she should go with me instead of her master. What do you say?
-- Contributed by: JesseHi Eric,
Your cat sounds sweet. It's especially rewarding when a cat is affectionate. They are such great companions.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardHi Renee,
Princess sounds adorable. All the ones I've owned have been very smart, but this is often the case with most cats. Cats are highly intelligent creatures. I've even taught my Siamese a few little tricks quite easily by just praising her when I say a word and she responds. For example, if I say "please", she will lift her paw and do a little kitty beg. It's very cute. It sounds like your cat would be very easy to train.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardMy tabby, with the royal title, "Princess", is an exceptional cat! She is a brown tabby, with white bib and white paws. I may be predjudice, but of all cats I've known, tabbies seem to be superior in intelligence. Does anyone else notice it, too?
-- Contributed by: ReneeHi I love my Tabby it's a grey Tabby I think it knows I'm the one who is the nice one.
I also think it enjoys being with me like a kid-brother, lol anyways, I think Tabbys are the best cat ever they're so cute and cuddley. ^v^
-- Contributed by: EricHi, Amanda. Your cat sounds very cute. One of the best cats I've ever had was a Tabby. She loved kids and was very docile but still had a unique personality.
The Mackerel Tabby is one of the most common coat patterns and can come in any color a solid coat comes in. Silver Tabbies would be the exception because you don't usually see silver solid coat patterns.
-- Contributed by: LoriSoardI Love the Mackerel Tabbies! I have a big fat ginger one, hes my pride and joy!!
-- Contributed by: AmandaHi Ashley,
Have you tried your local animal shelter? Many shelters have a surplus of cats and kittens looking for good homes. You can also try looking in the pet section of your local newspaper. Sometimes pet supply stores also allow customers to post free kittens signs. Between these sources, I'm sure you can find a new feline companion. Good luck!
